Maybank-MaGIC collaborate to boost start-up businesses in Malaysia

Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) has teamed up with Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) to boost start-ups in the financial services industry in ASEAN.

In a statement today, Maybank said it would leverage on MaGIC’s expertise, regional reach and resources to nurture local and regional start-ups.

Under the arrangement, the bank would become the financial services partner for MaGIC’s ASEAN Centre of Entrepreneurship, it said.

“The centre is a start-up support services platform offering services such as legal advice, intellectual property consultations, visa application and company secretarial services,” it said.

Maybank said it would also act as an advisory partner to MaGIC’s Accelerator Programmes and Academy to build viable propositions in regional financial services industry.
MaGIC Chief Executive Officer, Cheryl Yeoh, said this partnership would help in boosting the development of start-ups and social enterprise initiatives not only in Malaysia but also the region.

She said Maybank would be a main partner for start-up support services platform and provide opportunities for financial technology, also known as fintech startups, to grow locally and regionally.

“We are encouraged by the support we are seeing from the private sector and Maybank as one of the early drivers for private sector opportunities,” she said.
