Zenefits Just Raised $500 Million At A $4.5 Billion Valuation

TECHCRUNCHZenefits today said it has raised $500 million in a round led by Fidelity and TPG at a whopping $4.5 billion valuation. The company, which allows small- and medium-sized businesses to manage human resources services in a much simpler fashion, is one of the fastest-growing SaaS businesses ever, and in an interview, Zenefits CEO Parker Conrad said the big round was raised to keep the company growing as quickly as it already is. Max Levchin’s Affirm Raises $275 Million to Make Loans

RE/CODE: Having dabbled in online slideshows and fertility tracking, PayPal co-founder Max Levchin has swung fully back to his online money roots. Affirm, the online lender where Levchin is co-founder and CEO, has now raised $275 million. The “vast majority” of the round is debt that the company expects to lend out to its customers, an average of $400 at a time. (more…)

UBER & Zopa Hook Up to Help Drivers Purchase Cars

CROWDFUND INSIDERZopa, the first peer to peer lender in the UK, has partnered up with another innovative firm UBER. The now (almost) ubiquitous ridesharing / cab replacement company is entering into a new service.  UBER and Zopa have created a new marketplace that will assist UBER drivers who are looking to move from renting an auto to purchasing the car.  The new agreement is expected to “help thousands of UBER drivers reduce their costs each month” but lowering monthly costs.  Certainly an interesting incentive for new drivers to join the UBER team. TECHCRUNCHCircle, the Bitcoin startup that veteran entrepreneur Jeremy Allaire started, just raised $50 million from Goldman Sachs and IDG Capital Partners. It’s another sign that the finance industry’s most powerful players are starting to take the crypto-currency and its ecosystem seriously. All of Circle’s existing investors including Breyer Capital, General Catalyst Partners, Accel Partners, Oak Investment Partners, Fenway Summer, Digital Currency Group and Pantera Capital participated. Bigcommerce Acquires Checkout And Inventory Software Startup Zing

TECHCRUNCH: E-commerce platform Bigcommerce announced today that it has made its first acquisition, point-of-sale and inventory management software startup Zing. The value of the deal was undisclosed. Bigcommerce has raised $125 million so far from investors including General Catalyst, Softbank, and American Express, and is pursuing rapid growth in the U.S. and Asia. It faces formidable competition, however, from other e-commerce platforms like Shopify (which recently filed for a $100 million IPO) and Magento, as well as marketplaces such as eBay and Amazon that target smaller vendors. 2C2P Raises $7M To Bridge The Payment Gap In Southeast Asia

TECHCRUNCHPayments continue to be a huge issue in many parts of Asia and emerging markets. E27.CO: Russian venture capital firm Life.SREDA, which e27 exclusively reported is to open its own fin-tech accelerator InspirAsia in Singapore this year, has just shared more juicy goodness: it plans to invest the remaining US$80 million to US$90 million of its second fund into promising fin-tech startups across Asia Pacific over the next six months. Vladislav Solodkiy, the firm’s Managing Partner, said he expects the remainder of the fund to be invested in between 20 to 30 startups at rounds of between US$1 million and US$10 million depending on the stage of the company.
