Coinbase and Visa Launch Real-Time Crypto Trading Solution for US and EU Customers
Coinbase has partnered with Visa to enable instant account funding and crypto purchases for eligible debit card holders in the United States and European Union.
The integration with Visa Direct allows Coinbase users to deposit funds, purchase cryptocurrencies, and withdraw to their bank accounts in real-time — a feature particularly valuable in the dynamic cryptocurrency market where timing can be crucial for trading opportunities.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Coinbase to help service their customers’ money movement needs,” said Yanilsa Gonzalez Ore, Head of Visa Direct, North America for Visa. The feature enables Coinbase users with eligible Visa debit cards to “take advantage of trading opportunities day and night.”
While Coinbase already serves millions of users with connected debit cards, this new functionality eliminates traditional waiting periods for fund transfers. Akash Shah, Senior Director of Product Management at Coinbase, emphasized that the integration “supports our mission of increasing economic freedom in the world” by providing customers with seamless control over their finances.
The partnership comes at an interesting time for the cryptocurrency industry in both regions. The European Union’s recent adoption of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Act (MiCA) has provided clearer regulatory guidelines for crypto service providers, potentially facilitating expansion in the region. Meanwhile, in the United States, the industry continues to advocate for favorable regulatory frameworks.
This collaboration builds upon the existing relationship between the two companies, which includes the Coinbase Visa debit card program for U.S. customers. The new integration represents another step in Visa’s growing involvement in the cryptocurrency sector, following their recent launch of the Visa Tokenized Asset Platform for banks to manage fiat-backed tokens.
The service is now live for eligible Visa debit card holders in both the U.S. and EU markets, offering a more streamlined approach to cryptocurrency investment and trading.
