Robinhood Markets, Inc. has announced the acquisition of Pluto Capital Inc., an artificial intelligence (AI) powered investment research platform, in a strategic move to bolster its AI capabilities and offer more personalized investing tools to its users. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded by Jacob Sansbury, Pluto is known for its AI-driven personalized investment advice and real-time analytics. Sansbury, who will join Robinhood’s team, is tasked with accelerating the trading app’s adoption of AI technologies and integrating Pluto’s capabilities across the Robinhood platform.
Mayank Agarwal, Robinhood’s VP of Engineering, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “Their expertise in artificial intelligence coupled with a mission-aligned passion to democratize finance will complement our team’s effort to bring AI-powered tools to our customers.”
The integration of Pluto’s technology is expected to provide Robinhood users with several key benefits:
- Enhanced data analysis: Pluto’s advanced analytics can process and interpret market data more efficiently, potentially leading to quicker identification of trends and investment opportunities.
- Personalized investment strategies: By analyzing factors such as risk tolerance, investment goals, and historical behavior, the platform will offer customized recommendations tailored to individual user profiles.
- Real-time insights and portfolio optimization: Investors will receive up-to-date information and insights, enabling more informed and timely decision-making.
This acquisition aligns with Robinhood’s recent efforts to expand its services beyond traditional stock trading. The company has been diversifying its offerings to include cryptocurrency trading, retirement products, and credit cards, while maintaining its focus on retail investors.
Sansbury emphasized the democratic nature of the platform, stating, “There will be no thresholds or no gates. It’s very important for us to give access very democratically to everyone.”
The Pluto acquisition follows Robinhood’s recent $200 million purchase of cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to growth and innovation in the fintech space.
