Curve bids to woo users with cashback rewards

By Curve,

Curve, the app that connects your debit and credit accounts to just one Curve Mastercard, is launching the Curve Cashback offer – exclusively available to new Curve customers.

This offer is available to all new customers signing up for Curve, whether for the business card or the consumer card, and provides 1% instant cashback at a personalised set of merchants. It doesn’t matter which account you spend from, even if that card already offers cashback or rewards. Retailers include brands such as John Lewis, Apple and Booking.com

Curve aims to slim down your wallet and simplify money management by connecting your accounts, cards and services to one card and a secure mobile app. It launched in January with over 50,000 people on the waitlist; several thousand more have since signed up.

New customers can choose from two propositions: the free Curve card gives you 1% back when spending at three retailers of your choice, from a list of 50 of the most popular UK retailers including Waitrose, Boots, TfL and PRET; while Curve Premium, available for a one-off fee of £50, enables selection of six retailers including some only available to Premium cardholders, such as Amazon, Apple, Ocado and M&S.

Customers can double dip on rewards by linking their existing rewards cards to their Curve card. For instance if a customer has a cashback or points offer on a credit card which is agnostic of where they spend, they can earn both those rewards and Curve cashback when they add that card to their Curve wallet and spend with their Curve card. The majority of cashback cards offer 1% cashback long term, with Curve you can add 1% to that for 3 months.

How Curve Cashback works

1. Tap on Curve Cashback from the ‘Connect’ portal in the Curve app
2. Select your three preferred retailers from a list of 50. Curve Premium users have an expanded list of retailers and can select six for earning cashback.
3. Tap confirm once you’re happy with your selection.

That’s it.

Customers can now spend as normal with their Curve card, and earn 1% cashback at their chosen retailers for 90 days – the cashback goes straight onto their virtual Curve Rewards card in the app, and can be spent anywhere in the world that accepts Mastercard. For additional cardholder protection, Curve operates 24/7 fraud protection and Mastercard’s chargeback scheme, which offers support for refunds in the event of eligible purchases.

How does Curve work?
The card works like a normal bank card anywhere in the world that accepts Mastercard – for contactless, chip & PIN, magstripe and ATM withdrawals. New customers can download the Curve app, securely add their existing cards, and start spending from all their accounts with one Curve card. Users set a default spending card and change it any time with a swipe in the app.

To get Curve, users can choose between the free and paid (“Premium”) options. The free option is free to sign up for. Premium is available for £50 and offers additional benefits as part of the Curve Rewards scheme. Everyday domestic usage of Curve for regular payments is free. Details of fees associated with overseas spend and ATM usage above certain limits are available in our terms of service here.

Curve is currently issued in the UK with plans to expand into further countries within Europe in the near future.
