Bitstamp and Stripe Forge Alliance to Streamline Crypto Purchases in EU

Bitstamp, the world’s longest-running cryptocurrency exchange, has announced a strategic partnership with Stripe, a leading financial infrastructure platform, to support Stripe’s fiat-to-crypto onramp across the European Union. This collaboration, revealed on August 7, 2024, aims to simplify the process of purchasing cryptocurrencies for European consumers.

The partnership leverages Stripe’s innovative onramp technology, a customizable widget that developers can easily integrate into their applications or websites. This widget provides users with a seamless checkout experience optimized for cryptocurrency conversion, allowing near-instant settlement of transactions. Bitstamp will manage the fiat currency to cryptocurrency conversion and transfers to consumers, expanding its Bitstamp-as-a-service offering.

Stripe’s crypto onramp supports a variety of popular cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), Stellar (XLM), and USD Coin (USDC). This wide range of options caters to diverse investor preferences and needs within the European crypto market.

Jean-Baptiste Graftieaux, Global CEO of Bitstamp, expressed pride in the partnership, stating, “We’re immensely proud to have been chosen to partner with Stripe – one of the biggest and most trusted players in the payments space. It’s a testament to our own record for safety, reliability, and security.”

John Egan, Head of Stripe Crypto, highlighted Bitstamp’s reputation as a key factor in the decision, noting, “Bitstamp’s long-standing reputation as a trusted partner made them an easy choice for us when considering how best to serve the needs of our users and their customers in the EU.”

It’s worth noting that while this service will be available across the EU, it will not be offered to customers in the United Kingdom. The partnership also follows Robinhood’s recent announcement of its plans to acquire Bitstamp in a $200 million all-cash deal, aimed at expanding the exchange’s reach beyond the United States.
