Former Visa chief takes the helm at crypto banking startup
Marc O’Brien, former CEO of Visa UK and a key advisor of Revolut, has been appointed chief executive officer of mobile crypto bank Crypterium.
Backed by the proceeds of a £38.6 million Initial Coin Offering, Crypterium is building a virtual card and mobile app that will enable users to convert their digital assets to fiat for funds transfers and purchases at the checkout.
O’Brien spent six years as CEO of Visa UK and Ireland, leading the contactless technology programme in the UK and with Transport for London.
Since leaving Visa in 2014, he has been a key advisor at Revolut and a consultant to the Royal Mint on the possible creation of a Gold backed Crypto Token.
Commenting on his new role, O’Brien says: “I strongly believe that cryptocurrency is about to go mainstream and we can be pioneers to build Crypterium into a terrific business.”
