Ant Financial, the mobile and online payment platform owned by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, has merged with helloPay Group, which runs the helloPay payment platform on online shopping and selling platform Lazada.
Starting today, helloPay will be rebranded as Alipay Singapore, Alipay Malaysia, Alipay Indonesia and Alipay Philippines in the respective market it is operating in. The rebranded entity will continue to provide payment services on the Lazada platform across Southeast Asia. All of helloPay’s features and services remain unchanged and the rebranded helloPay will remain separate from Alipay app.
Post the merger, the helloPay team became part of Ant Financial and Ant Financial will be operating the rebranded helloPay.
“There will be no impact to helloPay’s users and payment partners. We will continue to innovate and provide users with safe, fast and convenient payment services,” said Douglas Feagin, Senior Vice President of Ant Financial.
helloPay was established in November 2014 by the Lazada Group to provide payment solutions for the Lazada platform. helloPay has been operational in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Alipay is a third-party digital payment and lifestyle platform operated by Ant Financial Services Group. It has over 450 million active users in China and beyond and is the most popular online payment tool in China. Through Alipay app, users can hail a taxi, book a hotel, buy movie tickets, pay utility bills, make appointments with doctors, or purchase wealth management products.
