MOBILE PEER-TO-PEER PAYMENTS

By MBLM, the Brand Intimacy Agency

As has been well reported, the financial services industry is undergoing a dramatic transformation. FinTech (or financial technology) is changing the way we spend, save, sell, invest, and lend. From crowdfunding to personal finance, this $707B industry is growing, both in size and in scope. Peer-to-peer mobile payments are still a relatively modest $28B sector within this industry, but we believe they are on the cusp of mainstream adoption. (more…)

Square Acquires Fastbite To Add Cheap, Fast Meals To Caviar

TECHCRUNCH: When Square bought food delivery startup Caviar last summer, it seemed like a strange acquisition for the payments company. But over time it’s become clear that Square is committed to competing in the increasingly crowded food-delivery segment. Thanks to its recent acquisition of San Francisco-based food delivery startup Fastbite, it’s adding a whole new option to Caviar that will reduce the cost of meals and time customers spend waiting for them to be delivered. By doing so, it will compete more directly with local food delivery services like Sprig and Spoonrocket. (more…)

Square’s $Cashtags let you pay people and businesses anywhere easily via the Web

THE NEXT WEB: Square introduced Square Cash in 2013 to go against Venmo as an easy payment system anyone can use to send some money over to friends and families. Turns out companies liked the idea too, so Square has now made Cash available for businesses in the US. As with Cash for consumers, payments are deposited directly into bank accounts with an intermediary holding account. Square is charging businesses a 1.5 percent fee (value of transaction being limited to $250 per transaction and $2500 per month) for the service – just over half the 2.75 percent it charges for payments via its hardware devices. Non-business money transfers are still free. (more…)

Square is shutting down Square Order

VENTUREBEAT: Square is shutting down Square Order (take-away preorder) to fuel the recently acquired Caviar (allows to order food with delivery), as far as it’s growing rapidly and better illustrates to merchants that the customers are new ones. (We believe, Square Order was not successful because merchants’ customers communicated with Square brand, and merchants were not willing to give away their customer base to Square. Meanwhile a similar service My-Apps.com creates pre-order apps under the merchant’s brand – thus, there is no conflict of interest).
