Canadian challenger Mogo merges with Difference Capital

Mogo Finance Technology, the Canadian challenger bank, has signed a definitive arrangement to merge the bank with Difference Capital Financial.

Under the terms of the agreement, each common share of Mogo will be exchanged for one Difference common share. Upon completion of the transaction, former Mogo shareholders will own approximately 80% of the combined entity on a fully diluted basis. (more…)

Shopify’s iPad POS System Gets Its Own Apps

TechCrunch: Shopify has been steadily improving its iPad-based POS solution since its launch a couple of years prior, in order to better compete with rivals like Revel, Square, ShopKeep, Vend and many others. Today, the company is expanding the capabilities of its iOS POS system with the launch of nearly a half-dozen apps for the platform, allowing merchants to add custom features to their POS solutions without having to upgrade to a more expensive POS platform. PayPal’s One Touch Instant Web Checkout Service & Stripe’s New iPhone App

TECHCRUNCH: As PayPal moves closer to its spinoff from parent eBay, the company continues to expand the services it will have to generate revenue as a standalone business. In the latest development, today PayPal is expanding One Touch on the web — a widget that lets people use PayPal to pay for goods on third-party websites without needing to re-enter passwords or their user IDs — outside of the U.S. The first markets for its international rollout will be the Canada and the UK. Apple Pay Is Reportedly Launching In Canada This Fall

THE NEXT WEB: Apple Pay is gearing up to expand outside US borders. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the company is currently in talks with Canada’s six biggest banks (Royal Bank of Canada,Toronto-Dominion Bank,Bank of Nova Scotia,Bank of Montreal,Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and National Bank of Canada) in preparation for a potential November launch in the country. Canada Needs 182,000 People To Fill These IT Positions By 2019

IT WORLD CANADA: Due to skills mismatch, demand-supply imbalances, an aging workforce and other factors, Canada is headed for a major technology talent shortage in the next five years. Canada needs 182,000 people to fill positions for information systems analysts and consultants, computer and network operators, Web technicians, software engineers and others in by 2019, according to an IT labour market report released this week.
