Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) has teamed up with Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) to boost start-ups in the financial services industry in ASEAN.

DBS commits S$10m to Singapore’s startup ecosystem

Southeast Asia’s leading lender DBS Friday committed S$10 million ($7.1 million) for Singapore’s startup ecosystem over the next five years, and a bulk of this amount is slated to go into programmes run by the bank such as its partnerships with local accelerators and incubators.

E27: Meet the first 8 startups chosen for InspirAsia – Life.SREDA’s fintech post-accelerating programme: Softpay (Vietnam), Mobikon (Singapore), Rev (Malaysia), StoreHub (Malaysia), HotTab (Vietnam), Ayannah (Philippines), HomePay (Singapore), TIDE (Malaysia). Singapore-based fintech venture capital firm, Life.SREDA, has announced eight startups selected for its InspirAsia accelerator programme. Each startup that joins the VC fund’s 30-180-day pre-series A accelerator programme, which kicks off in September, will receive between $50,000 and $500,000 in funding, depending on the stage of the startup, in return for 5% to 15% equity, besides $250,000 in support services. At the end of the programme, the fund can decide on additional funding or bridge fundraising from other VCs from its network. (more…)

Singapore’s fin-tech startup Toast raising US$750K seed

E27CO: Singapore-based fin-tech startup Toast is raising a US$750,000 seed round, with half the funds already committed, e27 has learned. The Startupbootcamp (Fintech Singapore) incubated startup founded by British entrepreneur Aaron Siwoku, which just relaunched following a rebranding from Cryptosigma last week, has already received S$24,500 (US$18,000) in return for an eight per cent equity stake from the accelerator.

Real estate crowdfunding: new capital inflow

TECHCRUNCH: In a move that feels fairly unusual, Global Founders Capital (GFC), the venture capital arm of German startup factory and e-commerce behemoth Rocket Internet, has invested in a startup before it’s even launched. The company in question is BrickVest, a London and Berlin-based real estate investment platform founded by Emmanuel Lumineau, Thomas Schneider, and Adalbert Wysocki, who have a background in investment banking, real estate and fintech. It’s launch is pegged for Q3 2015, but interested parties can sign up for pre-registration now with the promise to be able to get in on the action early once the first real estate is listed on the site.

E27.CO: GrabTaxi from Singapore is about to get US$200 million in fresh capital, pegging its valuation at US$1.5 billion. It quotes “a person familiar with the situation”, who has shared that the round is being led by US hedge fund Coatue Management LLC.
